Invader Zim is written and directed by Johnen Vasquez, I have loved Johnens work since the first comic book he wrote many years ago called johnny the homicidal maniac, his characters have so much life and individuality and his comedy writing is brilliant, I will always class Johnen as one of the key influences in my own work.
This is where my idea for a medieval setting originated, Deathspank is a role playing game that pokes fun at role playing games! The game is written brilliantly and is genuinely funny and whilst playing through the game I found myself wanting to also tell a story set in these times of mythical beasts and heroes, and thus spawned Billys Dream. Originally I wanted to animate it completely in after effects like the start of the trailer here and the start of the actual game, but I decided to animate in stop motion to ad more depth to my characters.
This is a test head for my blacksmith character, the black is going to be filled with putty which will also cover the metal that runs round the face to make up the top lip so I can use him for lip synch.
The armature for my Rogrob character, just waiting for the milliput to set then on goes the foam! I can’t believe this has taken a whole box and a bit of milliput to actualy put together, having said that he is a big one! Ha!
This is the final scene while the credits roll, we see billy sleeping in his bedroom, and once the credits finish the camera zooms in on the Rogrob and he winks to finish the animation, this will be done using after effects 2D animation similar to the Sonic postcard from first year.
And here is My main character Billy, he is an 8 year old boy, who dreams of being a knight and helping people, he is a fearless little guy with a heart of gold.
This is Ethel, Hurberts wife, she is a very domineering woman, and always puts Hurbert down, she looks after all of the crops but Hurbert always tries to take credit for her hard work!
This is Hurbert, he is the grocer with his wife Ethel, Hurbert is a very outspoken Old Man, but is always over powered by his wife!
This is Olga, she is the Baker in Little Lake, she is from Sweden and is usually a very jolly woman, but gets very upset when the Rogrob eats all of her bread and pastries!
